Alternative to Lightroom? Darktable and Lightzone.

Since I have been using Lightroom 3 on my current windows system now for some considerable time it's interface and features have been lacking even compared to my phone (Lightbox photos). It has quite a lot of features and new tools to image editing and processing, it's owned by Facebook so my dislike for it increased.

So I've been fishing for alternatives to Lightroom, and came up with two contenders:

Darktable
It looked very promising, infact I was prepared to register and wasn't able to find a place to register, so looked for a downloads page and saw a lot of linux downloads but no windows one. How is this an issue in this day and age. They don't want to commit to making a Windows version but instead want you to support one of the Linux operation systems.

For me, that's way too much to ask as I'm a windows user and linux isn't for me. No forums tho and from this appear to be a bit standoffish.

Lightzone
Lightzone seems to be a good program, feature rich and well developed, but sometimes the website hangs up (accused me of being a bot at one point). Has forums and the community appears to be friendlier. The interface is very much like lightroom, has good editing features, a bit more than I would expect so this is good.

So, the issue remains. Both don't appear to be able to move my catalogue or a way to read them, so I've bought the bullet and got the latest version of Lightroom. Out of the two I'd go with Lightzone than Darktable as it's easier to use and seems to be more than a picture viewer.

As it stands, there's really no alternative to Lightroom (unfortunately) so I managed to snab a copy of Lightroom 5 for $200.
